Congratulations, you’re moving into a student flat share with, hopefully, some pretty amazing people! Moving into the best student accommodation Leeds can be a huge new experience that becomes a great part of university life. But, how do you ensure that living in your student flat share runs as smoothly as possible? Well, here are some does and don’ts for when you’re living with other people. Let us know if there’s anything else we should add on!
Here’s Not What To Do In Your Student Flat Share
Don’t be messy. No one like the person that leaves a load of crusty dishes by the sink for days on end. Sure, you don’t need to clean them up straight away but don’t leave them lingering for other people to clean up. That’s not cool.
Don’t steal other people’s food. Would you like it if you came to have your breakfast cereal to find someone had used all you milk? That chocolate in the cupboard might be your housemate’s treat after they’ve finished a particularly tough essay. Don’t take that joy away from anyone.
Don’t be noisy. Be considerate to you house mates. Be careful when closing doors and make sure you’re not blasting out music 24/7. You might love Stormzy but the person in the next room probably doesn’t appreciate listening to every word at 2am in the morning.
Don’t go overboard on the pranks. Yes, it could be funny to tinfoil everything in your housemates food cupboard but doing that to everything in their room is just a nightmare that no-one wants to deal with. Plus, you might get it back twice as bad.
Here’s What To Do In Your Student Flat Share
Offer cups of tea. Are you hanging out in the living room, watching a film? Are you getting up to grab a cuppa? Offer one round to your house mates. Yes, it’s a bit more work but it’ll make everyone happy. This rule actually applies to when you leave uni too. ALWAYS offer to make tea if you’re getting a drink.
Do give people space. Some people enjoy time to themselves. Yes, it’s nice to be welcoming and knock on their door to invite them for a drink. But, sometimes people just want a bit of me-time to study or blog or phone their family.
Do be friendly. You don’t want to be known as the grump of the house do you? A smile and a hello will go a long way, even if you don’t want to be best friends with them.
Do enjoy yourself. This is one of the best times of your life. You have your independence, you’ll more than likely be living with great people, and you’re at university – a place where memories are meant to be made for life.
