Our monthly guide to the best gigs, events and food offers in Leeds
Gigs
Jessie Ware – O2 Academy Saturday 24th January 2015
With her second album ‘Tough Love’ at the end of 2014, Jessie Ware will be embarking on her new tour from January this year. After a collaboration with SBTRKT, remixes from Disclosure and a new record featuring co-writes with Ed Sheeran, 2015 is set to be a big year for the London based singer.
Rae Morris – The Wardrobe Wednesday 4th February 2015
2014 has been a great year for Blackpool born singer/songwriter Rae Morris. Supporting the likes of George Ezra, Tom Odell and Lianne La Havas, as well as collaborating with Bombay Bicycle Club on their single ‘Luna’ has set Morris in good stead for the release of her debut album this year.
Ben Howard – First Direct Arena April 2015-01-06
Although not until later in the year, it is important to note that the tickets are now on sale for Howard’s debut performance at the First Direct Arena, and they may go quickly. After his debut album ‘Every Kingdom’ took the UK by storm in 2011, Howard has gone on to hit the charts worldwide. Back in Leeds to tour his second LP ‘I Forget Where We Were’ it is nice to see that success has not led Howard to selling out with the new record exploring much darker themes.
Food
Brandon Street Night Market
The street food market returns again this year to Canal Mills. Featuring one Friday every month, the night market brings together a host of different styles of food from all over the world. A night packed with cocktails, locally brewed beer, music and live art.
Trinity Kitchen
Trinity Kitchen is a new addition to the Leeds food scene, and can be found at the top of Trinity shopping centre. Much like the Night Market, Trinity Kitchen is home to an ever-changing mix of street food stalls, from Lebanese to the West Country. The Kitchen is also home to some permanent establishments including Rolawola – an interesting take on Indian street food, and Tortilla – a classic take on Californian style Mexican food.
Nation of Shopkeeper 2-4-1 Burgers – Every Tuesday
For a long time now Nation of Shopkeepers and Rosie’s Diner have been a staple when it comes to burgers in Leeds. With an every increasing number of burger joints opening in Leeds, it’s important to remind ourselves of the great 2-4-1 burger deal every Tuesday at Nation. Go for great atmosphere, a range of beers and live music/DJ’s on offer most nights of the week.
