From your first year of uni to your final, finding your home away from home can be the biggest challenge students can face. We understand that house hunting can be quite a daunting process, and you may have a long list of questions regarding housing. We’re here to help! Rentinc have pulled together a list of FAQS that should answer most of your questions bothering you about house hunting!

Question: When should I start my house hunt?

Answer: The house hunting experience can be a lot more relaxing if you get started early. Starting early might also help you in securing the best value property in your desired area. And most of all, your mind will be at peace once you’ve sorted your housing before all your mates!

Question: Should I go ALL INC or NON INC?

Answer: The answer to this question lies solely on your budget. If you go all inc, Rentinc are locked into the best rate we can find and you won’t have to constantly worry about bills or bickering over who used the electric heater. However, going non inc can give you more flexibility to choose your provider. The choice really is yours. 

Question: How many people should I live with?

Answer: The more people you live with usually means the cheaper the house. Living with more people can also be good for your social life. However, living within a big group can be stressful for some. We find the most popular group size is 3-4 people, where you can truly enjoy being in each other’s company and is a great balance of alone time and social time.

Question: Which area in Leeds should I live in?

Answer: Right in the heart of vibrant city of Leeds, there are plenty of amazing suburbs you can choose to live in..

  • Hyde Park- great for students looking to live in the heart of it. Very popular with 2ndand 3rd year students, great amenities with a hip vibe
  • Burley- similar to Hyde Park with great amenities, parks and transport links into the city
  • Headingley- slightly more of a relaxed village feel, but still loads of cafes, shops and bars. Famous for the Otley Run!
  • University- great for students wanting to stumble out of bed and into the lecture hall. Also close to Hyde Park with amazing amenities. 

Question: What should I ask on my viewing?

Answer: To make viewings easier, it’s important that you come armed with a list of important questions like; what is included in the rent? What will be the monthly/quarterly amount and can I afford this? Does your student loan cover the rent? 

You can also ask about the local area (our negotiators have great local knowledge and know all the best places!) The most important question that you should ask is, how far is it from you work or uni? (You want to factor if you need to pay for bus/ train fare into your budget). Asking about parking spaces is also a good idea especially when you have your own car.
